Non-intrusive roof surveys

Ridge tile repair, re-bedding and conversion to mechanically-fixed dry ridge.

Symptoms & warning signs

  • One or more ridge tiles visibly lifted, slipped or sitting at an angle
  • Mortar cracking along the ridge or falling into the gutter
  • A ridge tile that has come off entirely during high winds
  • Damp appearing at the top of the roof space, near the apex
  • Birds or vermin getting in under a gap at the ridge

Inspection & diagnosis

Every quote begins with an inspection. Where a roof is inaccessible, complex or storm-damaged, we can carry out a drone inspection to capture imagery and annotated findings before recommending works.

Traditional British brick chimney stack with hand-dressed lead flashings, lead soakers and terracotta chimney pots.

Typical scope of work

  • Inspection of the full ridge line, not only the tile that has moved
  • Removal of loose ridge tiles and old bedding mortar
  • Re-bedding in fresh mortar, or conversion to mechanically-fixed dry ridge
  • Replacement of cracked or broken ridge tiles with matched units
  • Checks on the hip lines and verges where similar bedding is likely to be failing
  • Recommendation on whether spot repair or full conversion is the honest solution

Timescale

Individual ridge tile repairs are usually completed within a single visit. Mortar bedding needs dry conditions to cure properly, so wet spells can push the date; a dry ridge conversion avoids that constraint.

Guarantee & aftercare

Repairs carry our written workmanship guarantee. Where the wider ridge line is failing we will tell you, rather than re-bedding one tile at a time and returning each winter.

Project evidence

Every job is photographed before, during and after the work, so you can see what was found, what was done and what it looks like finished — including the parts of the roof you cannot see from the ground. Those photographs are shared with you and, with permission, may be used as a case study.

Before chimney repair: a British brick chimney stack with eroded mortar joints, cracked flaunching, vegetation growth and lifted lead flashing.
After chimney repair: the same stack repointed in matched mortar with new flaunching, sound pots and neatly dressed lead flashing.
